A Golden New Years Mantle

Hello my friends and Happy New Year!

I have never been a lover of gold.  In fact, even my wedding ring was white gold.  Yes, I say was because I lost it years ago.  Hubby offered to buy me a new one, but I've never been a fan of rings. May have something to do with my short fat fingers.  :) So I said, not to worry.

But when it comes to my New Years mantle, I am
'going for the GOLD'!

I started with the left side of the mantle where I placed a glass cake plate with a gold scalloped edge.  A couple years ago I sprayed some bottles gold for a bridal shower my daughter was hosting.  They were perfect for this mantle.  I filled one with two golden sprays picked up at Hobby Lobby after Christmas for 66% off.  I hung clock images that I had printed and glittered for New Years a few years ago

The gold bottles got dressed up with cute paper bows snagged in Hobby Lobby's clearance section.  Because, who doesn't like to get dressed up for New Years? (wink)

One jar is filled with tassel picks from Targets dollar spot and the other holds fun straws that I already had on hand.

When it comes to New Year décor, clocks are a must for me. The older, the better!

Clocks in a variety of sizes and colors.
The pearls of wisdom bottle was a take home favor for a bridal shower I hosted.

The right side of the mantle is getting it's 'party' on!  The polka dot cones were actually for treats.  I got them on clearance at Home Goods.  I turned them into hats by adding tassels to the top and making a crepe paper ruffle.  One lucky clock gets to wear a
party hat.

I just received the swan as a Christmas gift and I loved it so much that I wanted to leave it out.  Then I remembered that I had a little golden swan that I had picked up at a thrift shop.  They represent smooth gliding into the New Year.

I sprayed my red berry wreath gold and added a clock face in the middle.  Another Hobby Lobby clearance score.

Have you figured out that I love Hobby Lobby clearance?  Yup, I check it out every time I go there.  I found four glitter letters marked down to $.24 cents each.  I cut them into '2017'.  The two is a bit funky, but it works.

The dotty garland and little envelopes. . .clearance items as well.

It's really a simple, quick, and easy garland.  With everything else that's going on with the mantle I think it's enough.

I hope '2017' will be golden for all of you!!

hugs,
Jann

Share Your Cup #229

Hello and welcome to Share Your Cup, (SYC for short).

The party where you share what makes you happy.

It's hard to believe that Christmas has come and gone and we are looking a new year smack dab in the face!

'2017' is bound to be great simply because of the number '17'.  One of my lucky numbers.  Just so happens to be my date of birth. :)

Wishing you all the best year ever!!

Last week we were so busy that all I had time to share was a little jaunt hubby and I took to the Grand America Hotel.  You can read about it and see what came home with me in Isn't It Grand!

Now for the features from SYC #228:

I am looking forward to a new year of you sharing!!

Gina from Victorian Wanna Be shared the gorgeous vintage ornaments she has collected over the last year while working at estate sales.

Jolena from While I Linger shared her Christmas dining room.  I love how she styled her tiered tray!

Carole From My Carolina Home shared her Christmas décor.  Loved her gorgeous quilts!  I am a quilter, so I know the hours of love that went into this!

I absolutely love this Christmas map display by Lora B. What a great way to use old scaffolding!

Judy of J Bigg's Life in Kentucky took us on a Christmas tour of her daughters beautiful home.

Isn't it Grand!!

The Grand America hotel is located in the heart of Salt Lake City, UT.  At Christmas time it becomes 'magical'!

The name Grand America is perfect for this hotel because every chandelier they have is just, well; grand!

At the grand you can attend a Christmas tea or have breakfast with Santa.  Many however just go there to see the décor or to shop at the shops.  A lot of companies hold their Christmas parties there.  We go there almost every year to attend my husbands work party.  This year however, it was hosted in Provo.

One of the most talked about attractions is the large
gingerbread house.

I loved this bit of information.

A closer look and you will see that the windows are framed in Rice Krispy treats.  All of the lightly colored places in the previous photos are krispy treats as well.

Even the path is paved with those sweet treats held together with marshmallows and butter.

Of course I love those giant mushrooms!

So, if my husband's Christmas party wasn't held at the Grand, what took us there?

A visit to the toy store.

The window displays always intrigue those walking by.

(this is a marble contraption)

And , "NO" I was not shopping at the Grand for my grands.  I was shopping for myself.

Look what came home with me.

Meet Henry, my new Maileg pixy.  Isn't he the cutest?
I adore his sweater!!

I first saw Meileg's on Carol's blog, Art and Sand three years ago.  That same year I spied them in The Grand America toy store as we rounded the corner to my hubbies Christmas work party.  I must admit that I thought of running in and buying one right then.  However, I decided that I didn't need it and resisted.  Well, I finally caved and just had to have one of these cuties.

Hubby was a doll and asked me if I wanted the girl that matched.
I was a good girl and said, "next year".  :)

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas!
hugs,
Jann

I apologize for starting the party late.

What a busy week I have had!  I attended two Christmas programs today and one basketball game.  I'm sure many of you have been very busy as well.  In fact, I debated about even hosting SYC until after the New Year, but then decided to go ahead with it.

No features, and I will continue to visit the links to our

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas!!

Creating Christmas-Lighting the World, Our Christmas Porch

Hello my friends and welcome to day 5 of  'Creating Christmas'

Today we will be sharing our Christmas Porches and Outdoor Spaces with Kimberly over at Camp and Cottage Living

This year the LDS church has adopted the #LighttheWorld
Each day they suggest us doing something to do exactly that.

(a special lantern that belonged to my father in law)

Whether you are LDS or not, it is a great reminder for all of us to serve others and be a little kinder this time of year!

I've had a lot on my plate and have not done as much service as I would have liked to, but still, I think of this # and incorporate it into my daily life.  Simple things like letting someone go in front of me in the line at Wal-mart, Or stopping and letting a car get out of a parking lot at a busy time of day.

Although the lanterns I tied to my old apple ladder do not actually light up, they are a subtle reminder of me to spread some
'light' each day.

I used them on my ladder a few years ago and enjoyed them so much I added them again this year.

Now, for the rest of the porch.

The chippy filing cabinet remains on the porch for a while.  It's a bit heavy and hubby and I get tired of wheeling it off.  I'm sure he is thanking me for that!  lol!

I used the remaining ornaments left over from my wreath and filled two old galvanized buckets.  Hubby tied them to rope hanging from my rusty old pulley.

I hung a whispy wreath from one of the drawers.

Last week a friend and I were at a thrift shop when one of the employees wheeled out a cart with two of these deer on it.  We couldn't grab them up fast enough.  :)  They were only $5 BUCKS!  Catch the pun?

I love using fresh greens out on the porch.  Every year I give my father in laws trees a good trimming.

This year I also bought a garland and swag from Costco for
the door.

I kept it simple and just added a few red jingle bells and rusty stars here and there.

More bells on the swag.

I tucked more green and some giant bells inside of my vintage cream separator and placed it on one side of the door.

This cabinet usually sits in front of our family room window on a stand.  The tree now resides there, so it found it's way out on to the porch.  I placed a wooden tree (a thrift find), some pots, and a few ornaments inside.  It sits upon the white drop leaf table that once belonged to my hubbies grandparents that I topped with burlap.  I painted the Santa yeas ago.  Back when I taught tole painting.

Simplicity on the door standing in the corner of the porch.

I placed a couple of Alberta Spruce in my urns and draped a garland I made by stinging cranberries around them.

Merry Christmas from our front porch to yours!

Merry Christmas!
Jann

I want to thank all of you for sharing how you have Created Christmas for '2016'
