Share Your Cup #266

Hello and welcome to Share Your Cup, (SYC for short).

The party where you share what makes you happy.

Sorry for the late start today!

I have had a full day, but came home this afternoon with some fabulous news!  After reviewing everything about my cancer my Oncologist ordered a MamaPrint for me.  I had never heard of it.  In case you haven't either this is what it is.

MammaPrint is a diagnostic test to assess the risk that a breast tumor will metastasize to other parts of the body. This helps physicians determine whether or not each patient will benefit from chemotherapy.

Because both the cancer in my breast and one lymph node was so small she felt that I may not need chemo.

I got the results and they came back as low risk.  After meeting with the Chemo dr. today, he confirmed that he felt I didn't need chemo as well.  I am elated!!

Now, if I continue to get this infection cleared up, things are certainly looking positive!

Last week I shared how I love the Textures of Fall and how I used a lot of texture in my fall mantle.

I also shared a Halloween craft which is my ode to "Route 66"

The Textures of Fall. . .

Hello my friends, I don't think there is any other season that nature provides us with so many wonderful textures.

The crispy fallen leaves, the slender blades of grasses, and the round roughness of acorns and pinecones.  Just to mention a few.

I had this thought in mind when I decorated my living room mantle for fall.

I started with a pair of old chippy corbels that I bought in Charleston, SC a couple years ago.  I sat this sweet blue glass pumpkin, that was gifted to me; on a wooden slice and tucked it in between the corbels.

(notice the silly lady that got her shoulder in the photo?)  :)

The accent of the golden stem on the blue pumpkin prompted me to pull out a few of the gold mason jars that I've had for a few years.  They were originally made for a bridal shower.  I placed Hydrangeas in a couple and added some paper covered Styrofoam balls for more texture.

On the opposite endof the mantle I placed two metal pumpkins.  They were originally brown, but I sprayed them white and dusted them with gold glitter.  I thought I might add some bits of gold leafing, but never got around to it.  More paper balls, and a scalloped blue cake stand.  A shaft of wheat is tucked underneath.

The glass plate is the 'fall' one in the Currier and Ives" series.  I found them at a thrift shop a few years ago.

The clock represents a 'time for every season'.

I love this rustic wooden wheel I picked up at an antique store in Napa, CA last June.  the wood adds another texture.

After everything was all in place I tucked a burlap garland here and there throughout.

I planned on cutting leaves out of gold paper and draping a garland as well, but just did not get er done.  Sometimes things don't go as planned, but no worries, right?

I hope you enjoyed my fall mantle filled with texture!

One of my favorite textures we see in fall is that of pumpkins and gourds.  Don't you love the unusual ones they have now days?

This is my favorite gourd.  I added it to a vignette on our entertainment center.

How do you feel about texture?

hugs,
Jann

Halloween Crafting. . .My Ode to Route '66'

Hello my friends,
have you ever traveled route 66?

Hubby and I have driven bits and pieces of it, but with his recent retirement it is on my bucket list to drive it all.

I have always loved back roads and the fun places that you find along the way.

This time of year one is certain to see a farm stand or pumpkin patch along the route.

Last Tuesday my craft group was creating Halloween scenes on large tart tins.  I was not feeling well, and wasn't able to go.  They sent me photos of their wonderful projects.  Each one was unique and so creative!

Friday I was feeling better and decided to give mine a go.

It's my ode to 'Route 66".

We started with the tart tin that one of our crafters , Shirley's husband assembled and spray painted them black for us ahead of time.  Such a big help!! We find tins often at thrift shops and a wooden candlestick was added for the base.

I decided to add a bit of glitter to the fluted edge.  I brushed on a thin layer of modge podge and sprinkled black glitter.

No pumpkin patch would be complete without hay bales and cornstalks.  I got the little bale at the Dollar Store.  I took a small clump of raffia and folded in in half.  Then I tucked some of the fluffy tops of real corn stalks down inside and tied
around it with jute.

It's hard to see, but I added a black key to one of the stalks.  I had pulled it aside to use and thought, "what the heck".  :)

This cute pumpkin head mad came from Walmart for $1.24.  I ended up adding black glitter to the crow as well.

I've had this little orange Tonka truck for a few years.  Doesn't it look just like something you'd see somewhere along route 66?  I found the little bag of pumpkins at a thrift shop last year.  They were all green, so I painted some of them orange.

The black branch was another Dollar Store find and I got a package of two candy corn bottle brush trees at Michaels for 40 off.  Only used one.

I added glitter to the tree and some of the pumpkins as well.

So stop on by, u pick; and we'll load them up on our reliable little Tonka truck and deliver!

But don't wait long, because as you can see; there is frost on the pumpkins!  (wink)

The finishing touch was the addition of the numbers, "66".  They came from Aunt Bunnies estate.  One was a '9', but hubby fixed that with his handy drill.

Here's a close up view of my little pumpkin patch along route '66'.

It makes me ever so happy!

Happy Fall,

Jann

My sweet blog friend Susan Clayton  Eclectic Shorebird shared this darling poem, with me.  I think you will enjoy it too!

I will be sharing with these fun parties:

Share Your Cup #265

Hello my friends, and welcome to Share Your Cup,
the party where you share what makes you happy.

It's what I call "filling your cup".

I hope you are all having a wonderful week!  We are having the most beautiful weather here lately.  Finally feeling very fall like.

I have had a bad bout with infection for the past week and a half.
I ended up having to go to the hospital and getting an antibiotic through an I.V. twice a day.

This morning they told me that I only need to come once a day now.  Yahoo!!  I wanted to stand up and do a cheer.  Not only that, but I'm feeling half human again.  :)

Sorry, to say; but because of this I was not able to visit links and there will be no features this week.  :(

An Apple a Day Keeps the Dr. Away. . .

Hello my friends,
I'm sure many of you are familiar with the old saying, "An apple a day keeps the Doctor away".

Well, if that's the case, I have not been eating nearly enough apples.  (wink)

Still, once fall rolls around I've got to have a bowl full in my house.

Nothing quite like biting into a crunchy, juicy apple!!

Thinking I should have oiled them for their photo shoot.  :)

I placed them in this sweet $4 Sunflower Pyrex bowl I picked up at a thrift shop a couple years ago.  Two small plates with sunflowers in the center was propped behind.  One of my scales helps to add some elevation to the vignette.  Notice the cute little sunflower S&P shakers?  I got them at an estate sale.  I thought they were so tiny and sweet!

The orange creamer was another thrift find.  I loved the diamond design.  Thinking I need to fill it with some acorns.

But you know the fun couldn't stop there.
Did your mom ever tell you, "to stop playing with your food and just eat"?  I don't remember being told that, but not only do I play with my food, I play with my dishes as well.  lol!

I have such a sweet tooth and as soon as it feels a bit like fall I get craving Apple Crisp.  It's one of my favorite fall time desserts.

I have the complete set of four of these green Pyrex bowls called, Verde.  Another great thrift bargain.  My friends from one of the clubs that I am a member of gifted me with the darling dishtowel after my surgery.

Well, enough with playing, I'm going to eat that Apple Crisp!!

Here's the recipe just in case you get a hankerin for some too.

Apple Crisp

8-10 apples  (any variety.  I often mix, using what I have)

Top Crust:
1 c. brown sugar            1 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt                1/8 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 c. oats                1/2 cup margarine or butter
Mix together till crumbly I use a pastry blender.

Place peeled, sliced apples in a buttered 9x13 pan.
Top with crumb mixture and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
Bake in preheated oven for 30 min. at 350 degrees.

hugs,
Jann

It's No Picnic. . .

Lying in bed all day is no picnic. . .

SO,

of course, I just can't do it!!  :)  Luckily, the Dr's agree that getting up and moving is some of the best medicine.

Of course, finding a happy medium of not overdoing is always a challenge.  I listen to my body, and know when enough is enough!

I'm moving at a snail's pace, but am getting things done.

I have always loved picnic tins, and have collected a nice stack over the years.

I brought a few of them upstairs for my fall décor.

I placed a handmade crochet cloth on the middle of my table and scrunched it up.  I placed two of my picnic tins in the middle and filled the top one with a few maize colored plates.  I picked 8 of them up at a thrift shop last year.

While vacationing in CA in June I found the cute small thermos for $2 at a thrift store along the way.

This jar came from the estate I have been helping with.  I put it out for two sales and it didn't sale.  I loved it and decided that I was meant to buy it.  ;) I filled it with, not pretzels; but faux pumpkins.

I've kept my decorating pretty simple this year.  Remember, I don't want to overdo!  lol!

A couple of days later I ran across this little flash card of kids raking leaves and added it to one of my floral frogs.

Here's a couple of other picnic tins I've used.

This one is a reproduction that I bought while vacationing in New England fall of 2015.

I've used it in my family room mantle display.

This sweet pumpkin was made by a blog friend, Fran from

Some days I feel a bit like this mouse looks.  (wink)

But then I realize how blessed I am and just like this beauty, life begins to shine!

Yup, some times life is no picnic, but we have to look for the silver lining!!

hugs,
Jann
